In-Person and Off-Campus Exam Services
AES offers in-person external exam invigilation services, Accuplacer (Grade 12 English equivalency) testing, and Keyboarding assessments.
For applicants living outside of the Cowichan, Nanaimo and Powell River VIU campus regions, off-campus Accuplacer assessments can also be taken online for a small extra fee to an external remote invigilation service.

Accuplacer
Accuplacer* (Grade 12 English Equivalency) tests can be taken in person or off-campus. For more information about the test and for links to study materials, see Accuplacer.
- For applicants living outside of the VIU campus regions (Cowichan, Nanaimo, tiwšɛmawtxʷ (Powell River): To apply to write the Accuplacer test remotely, please complete the Off-Campus Accuplacer form. Please check that your computer meets the system requirements for a remote Accuplacer Test.
- To write the test in person at our centre in Nanaimo, please email us at Assessments@viu.ca.
*Please let us know if your Accuplacer test is for the Health Career Access Program (HCAP) admission requirements when you apply.
UPDATE: As of March 1st, 2024, Accuplacer test fees will be increased to $75 for the initial assessment and $60 for all rewrites.

The various foundation skills assessments results we generate and interpret are a reliable method to support placing a student in a program or course to ensure they are likely to meet with success.
Vancouver Island University Assessment Services was the first testing centre in Canada to be certified by the National College Testing Association (NCTA).
